Taking a Break from Online Play

So I have officially taken a week off of playing online to play some live poker. I have been trying to play as much live poker as possible over the past two months. There are a lot of undergrounds which spread 5/10 nl that I have gone to however I prefer the local casino (don’t have to pay 10% up to 15 dollar rake and it’s more secure). Since I live in Toronto the closest casino that spreads bigger games than 2/5 nl is Niagara Fallsview Casino Resort. I have seen (and played with) some familiar names in the poker world over the past month playing in the poker room at Fallsview Casino. A few weeks ago I played $5/$10 nl with Roy Winston and Dennis Phillips (chip leader heading in to the main event final table on November 9th). Winston and top pros will be making their way to Fallsview Casino Resort this week as the World Poker Tour kicks off the North American Poker Championships (runs from October 10-16).

During my last trip up to Niagara Falls I played mostly $5/5 nl holdem. The action was decent during the week but really good on the weekend. I decided not to play any higher stakes because I had been running badly during my previous live sessions. The following is my $5/5 nl holdem stats from 10/02/08 to 10/07/08. I have filtered out all other limits that I played during this time.

October stats

I would recommend that all poker players keep track of their online and live stats.

As you can see I played a total of 9 hours a session over 6 sessions and my average hourly rate was $137.42. Obviously there is more money to be made online because you are only playing one table live. This is why I like playing some bigger stakes while playing live. A quick reminder: Tracking your play is the only way you will find out if you are in fact a winning player. It will also help you notice your leaks and bleeds.

I am hoping to go to Niagara and check out the action during the WPT.

Cheers,

Errol

For live play I use pokertracking.com Its free and a great tool.
We also have a few downloadable templates you can use to track stats for live play.
If you are a member of the site you can find these under the Track Your Play menu.
For online play you can use poker tracker or poker office.
